Hadleigh 5 Star Luxury Accommodation in Christchurch
Hadleigh is a stately home of generous proportions however, we are Kiwis and not at all pretentious. We welcome you to not only enjoy the ambience and luxury of a gracious age, but also to our friendly, flexible approach to hosting B&B accommodation.
You will love the garden
Christchurch is affectionately known as the garden city. When we first discovered Hadleigh it was like stepping into an English country garden but in the middle of a city! The corner site was surrounded by mature trees, creating an oasis within. We were not seasoned gardeners but have found much pleasure in caring for it, fortunately we must be doing something right (see recent press article below). We would love you to to explore our rambling gardens with wonderful mature trees. There are little paths and vistas, places to rest, read a book, or relax with a beer or wine.

It's like living in an English manor house in the Southern Ocean
Hadleigh was designed in England out of the Voysey office, an exponent of the Arts & Crafts movement. The craftsmanship is superb. The patina of native timbers with sun streaming in from the lattice bay windows is magic. There are over 100 leaded and stained glass windows throughout our luxury B&B accommodation. When we arrived, Hadleigh was desperately in need of TLC, we were simply driven to restore this grand old lady. Our efforts were unexpectedly rewarded when we received the Supreme Heritage Award in recognition of our restoration and conservation effort.
The Kitchen is the heart of Hadleigh
The conservatory style kitchen is amazing, it catches the morning sun, large native rimu beams support extensive double-glazing, so we have a 180 degree view of tree tops, sky, and garden courtyard. I was not totally into cuisine when we arrived at Hadleigh, but the kitchen was a huge incentive. Now I thoroughly enjoy baking and making preserves. My rural background has provided a wealth of traditional recipes. It's a pleasure preparing splendid breakfasts and enticing nibbles for our evening cocktails. Guests are welcome in the kitchen, we often share recipes and ideas. It's just superb to know that somewhere the "Hadleigh muesli" or "Aunty Helens Tuitti fruiti slice" is being enjoyed by other global families.
Lots of fun in the Billiard Room
This room has a splendid native kauri billiard table, there is plenty of friendly competition for those who would like to try their hand at snooker or billiards. Everyone is welcome to participate, perhaps take a glass of wine, some nibbles and enjoy excellent friendly banter. There's a library too, with lots of light paperback reading. You are welcome to take a book for that long flight home. Numerous motor sport trophies and memorabilia add interest. There is also a very fine 1915 German piano, it has great tone, a sing along has been known!
The area for boys and their toys!
This area of Hadleigh is fascinating to those interested in motor sport. We purpose built this workshop and garage with the blessing of the Historic Places Trust. Externally it is designed in the genre of the house, but that is where the similarity ends, it extends to over 1500 pristine square feet dedicated to Porsche (there are three). Jon is a professional design engineer and is pleased to provide a tour for those interested in the vehicles and all aspects of Porsche 911 design and modification. Jon won the NZ Porsche Championship Series in 2006 driving his highly modified 911-3.8RS competing against up to 30 other Race Porsche's. There is an opportunity to drive a Carrera or participate in an the adrenalin pumping "Hot Laps" in the modified Carrera 993RS at the Ruapuna Race Track (see special packages).
